RCM Tools Done Right, What’s In Your Tool Belt?
EDPMA's Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Workshop in Dallas, Texas, in late May was a big success. Over 50 registrants heard from presenters who shared the latest developments in revenue cycle management during the two day workshop.
On the first day, Rachel Groman, from Hart Health Strategies (EDPMA's outside consultant), gave an update on Medicare's Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and the latest changes proposed by the Administration. Dr. Jeff Bettinger and Dr. Randy Pilgrim gave a presentation on the Acute Unscheduled Care Model and what it means for emergency medicine. Dr. Hamilton Lempert and Ed Gaines gave a provocative presentation on bad payer behavior explaining that training and data collection are key elements to success when facing inappropriate reimbursement policies proposed by bad commercial payers.
On the second day of the workshop, Greg Hufstetler's presentation gave attendees resources on physician cost accounting. Lydia Rodgers, VP for First Coast Service Options, and Dr. Deborah Patterson, VP & Medical Director for Novitas, shared tips on a smooth appeals process, the target, probe, and educate program, and avoiding errors. IThe last panel - r. Patterson, Dr. Juan Schaening, and Dr. Andrea Brault - shared best practices for submitting claims.
